LINE 6 M9 STOMPBOX MODELER

The Line 6 M9 gives you over 100 distinctive distortions, tangy choruses, syrupy sweet reverbs, and many other kinds of expressive effects. They combine under your feet to form an instant collection of stunning stompbox tones (many of which are from DL4™ Delay Modeler, Verbzilla® and other well-known Line 6 pedals).

The Line6 M9 Stompbox Modeler lets you run any three effects simultaneously with any three others on deck. Mix and match as you please. You have 100% control over effect placement and effect type - arrange them into tried-and-true combinations or get creative and invent your own original blends.

Create up to twenty-four different effect arrangements, or "scenes" – one for your metal band, one for your Top 40 gig...you get the picture. No more tearing up Velcro® just to switch out one or two pedals!

Included is a 28-second looper that provides the most fun you can have without getting arrested. It delivers extended, in-the-moment sound-on-sound looping and unlimited sonic possibilities. Six dedicated footswitches (Record/Overdub, Play/Stop, Play Once, Undo/Redo, Half Speed and Reverse) make it a snap to use.

M9 Stompbox Modeler is stompbox simple. There are no menus, no saving and no hassles. Tweak your tones on the fly using the dedicated knobs and, just like with classic stompboxes, your settings will remain after you power down.

Line 6 M9 Review
Wednesday, 7 March 2012  -  Camden

The idea of an all-in-one box sometimes worries me but on the initial "plug in / rock out" session with the Line 6 M9 Stomp box Modeller I was very pleased. My pedal board has long contained the original Line 6 stomp boxes, the DM4 distortion modeller, the DL4 delay modeller, the FM4 filter modeller and the MM4 modulation modeller. Line 6 went on to upgrade the stomp boxes to a studio grade rack mount pro version with advanced connectivity. Apparently U2's The Edge has the only two DM4 pro's in existence.

The idea of being able to travel with a smaller pedal board but still get all of those wonderful sounds and textures sounded fantastic, so like a kid on Christmas morning I ripped open the box and got down to the business of finding out if this latest addition to the Line 6 pedal catalogue continues the tradition of highly usable and inspirational effects in a easy to use package.

I prefer the throw the manual out the window method of figuring out a new bit of kit and within the first ten minutes parameter changes, pedal assignments and effect chain assignments where a breeze, Clarkson could probably figure this one out! The dedicated control knobs for each effect parameter mean no paging through menus to try and the delay time or wet / dry mix. The lads at Line 6 took the time to make the leds change depending on which type effect you have assigned to a particular foot switch, i.e. gold for distortion, purple for filter and so on. I must say my favourite touch was the delay time displayed in either milliseconds or note value, meaning I can tap whatever tempo I want via the built in tap tempo button and select dotted quarter notes or half notes, brilliant!

So after a few hours of rocking out and a bit of driving my neighbours mad I have found that yes, all of those wonderful effects and textures are alive and well in this small box. The M9 serves up a buffet of clean and dirty effects ranging from soft and delicate reverbs and delays to face melting distortion and sweeping filters. I can finally retire this heavy pedal board of mine and travel a lot lighter.
